NASA EDUCATION STAKEHOLDERS SUMMIT
September 13-15, 2010
Marriott Westfield Conference Center at Chantilly, VA

The Education Stakeholders' Summit will bring together high-level representatives of NASA, academia, and industry to achieve several important objectives: 1. Share important national policy initiatives for STEM education and workforce development; 2. Communicate the President's agenda for NASA; 3. Place the OSSI in context of these national policies and strategy frameworks; 4. Enhance the awareness of the OSSI-Student Online Application for Recruiting Interns, Fellows, and Scholars (SOLAR) System and the roles and benefits associated; 5. Provide forums for dialogue and feedback that might enhance NASA workforce development processes.

Charles F. Bolden, Jr., NASA Administrator, the Honorable Arne Duncan, U.S. Secretary of Education, and Dr. Cora Marrett, Acting Director of the National Science Foundation will participate to provide their perspectives and insights on building our Nation's STEM workforce and student pipeline. In addition, a special workshop with important information for aspiring NASA Principal Investigators has been added!

WASHINGTON (Aug. 18, 2010) - After conducting a national search through Russell Reynolds Associates, the Hispanic College Fund announced today that Chancellor Carlos E. Santiago of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) has been named to lead the organization as the new chief executive officer, effective Oct. 1.  Joseph A. Petrone, who provided distinguished leadership as interim CEO, will continue serving on the board of directors as vice chair of finance and transition duties to Dr. Santiago.


Los Angeles, CA (Aug. 16, 2010) - 127 students from Roosevelt, Belmont, Santee, Garfield, Grant, and Wilson high schools were hosted on the campus of UCLA on Aug. 10-13 for a four-day, three-night college empowerment program that inspired the students to graduate from college, become professionals, and give back to the community. While on campus, the students participated in various workshops with the themes of college, career, and community service. At the conclusion of the program, 100% of the students reported they will attend college, 51% said they would pursue careers in business and STEM, and 98% said they were confident in their ability to make a difference in their communities.


WASHINGTON (Aug. 9, 2010) - The Hispanic College Fund today elected Lockheed Martin Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Dr. Ray O Johnson, to its board of directors. Dr. Johnson offers an array of experience to the board and he will assist in guiding the Hispanic College Fund toward continued success.
